Whitcoulls launched its first Top 100 Books list in 1996, in a pre-millennial world without online shopping or social media, and even Harry Potter himself had yet to be unleashed! Now celebrating its twenty third year, Whitcoulls is proudly keeping the tradition of asking Kiwis from all over the country to tell us their favourite book of all time. Over the years thousands of you have voted in store, and thanks to the rise of the internet and social sharing making it easier to have your say, voting has become fiercer than ever!

We love your support and enthusiasm in helping to shape this list each year, and getting some surprises along the way - will Harry Potter retain its Number 1 spot? What cultural classics are making a comeback? From thrillers, historical fiction, classics, new releases, romance, fantasy and biography – all kinds of books are represented every year which shows the wide diversity of reading habits that we keep.
